Run it back: New Balance is releasing a 990 V1 on 17/06

In 1978 New Balance started development on an ambitious project. Designers were tasked with developing a market-leading running shoe. The sneaker born from this process was the 990. Although originally designed for runners, the 990V! and its later V2-V5 iterations would become nothing short of iconic. Truly timeless, the shoe has been appreciated by dads for decades but nowadays it would not be considered out of place on the runway either. The 990 isn’t going away either, with designers recently teasing the 990V6. It is testament to this model’s legacy that the model is still sought after in the year that the original marks its 40th anniversary. To celebrate this, NB is releasing a new 990V1 from its premium Made In The USA line. Join us as we preview the shoe.

The sneaker takes on a colourway that is almost synonymous with New Balance. Underlays of grey mesh breath under an upper built from a grey pigskin suede. The New Balance ‘N’ logo also comes in suede, although this time in white. The logo pairs well with laces that come in the same white. Finally, the upper is finished with hits of red that provide the shoe with depth. One such ruby accent is a tag with the words ‘version 1’ written onto it, a nod to the kick’s strong history.

Meanwhile, the roots of this shoe remain true to the original in white and black. Performance-wise the outer is made from an EVA midsole and a Vibram outsole. The shoe releases on the New Balance website on June 17th. For those that are as excited as we are, images from SneakerNews are provided below.
