New Drip: The Joe Freshgoods and New Balance 990 V3 lands on 10/9

New Balance’s 990 line has been synonymous with good quality and craftmanship for decades now. In that time the model has gone through 5 versions, with a 6th thought to be on the way soon. Until then, the 990 V5 remains the newest and most produced model in the line. But in 2021 it isn’t just the V5 that’s getting love. This year has also acted as something as a renaissance for older 990 shapes, including in-house V1s and V2s. The silhouette that seems to have benefitted most though is the 990V3. We’ve already seen collaborations with Kith and Bodega. Arguably even more anticipated than those is the upcoming V3 from Joe Freshgoods. Here, KickWave previews what makes this release one of the hottest of the year so far.

JFG’s 990 V3 is much more in keeping with the vibrant colours that punctuate his own work, rather than the more subtle colours that New Balance is often known for. Beyond being bright, the colourway of this kick is richly layered and detailed. The majority of the upper is made from pigskin suede, which rather than being uniform comes in two tones of crème and tan. The heel tab comes in the same crème whilst the tongue and stock laces mirror the tan elements. What makes this sneaker pop is the electric blue mesh that sits beneath the suede. This colour also weaves delicately through the outsole alongside both tan and white. Finally, a lime green colour appears sparingly throughout the shoe. This green detailing breaks up the other elements of the shoe and can be found on the heel counter, lace eyelets, sole of the shoe, and finally in both the JFG and New Balance text and branding.

The Joe Freshgoods 990 V3 certainly isn’t a conventional colourway. It won’t be everyone, but it will turn a few heads without compromising the usual New Balance comfort. If you’re as hyped as we are, the JFG 990 V3 releases on September 10th on the New Balance website. Official images are provided below, courtesy of Sneaker News
